Betfair Tennis Trading Tips: Thursday 23rd April

These tips are published when all have been played – in order to get today’s tips, join by clicking here and I’ll mail them to you!!

All times are UK/Irish and are subject to change, and all times are in 24hr format e.g., 01.00 = 1am and 16:00 = 4pm:

PLEASE NOTE, IF THERE ARE LIQUIDITY ISSUES, ALWAYS KEEP THE STAKES LOW

ATP BARCELONA (CLAY):

1. 10:00 – Cuevas v Agut —> HOT TIP

I must disagree with these odds!
Cuevas’ form on Clay has been pretty impressive throughout this season with losses to Nadal and Monaco, both in 3 sets, while Agut has been rather on and off.

Definitely suggesting to lay Agut here..

Lay Agut @1.57, back @2.3

2. 14:15 – Fognini v Nadal –> BACK HEAVY!

Fognini shocked Rafa in Brazil earlier this year on Clay. However, this match is played in front of Nadal’s home crowd and I sense a more lethal and in form Nadal showing up today!

—> BH Nadal @1.11, lay @1.01

I don’t think I’ve ever given a lay price of 1.01 before for trading. Today, I feel there is enough reason to do it as I just can’t see Rafa losing to the Italian.

3. 15:15 – Paire v Kohlschreiber

Paire came through against Gulbis after a disastrous first set in his previous match. However, today he faces an exceptional clay court talent in the German, Kohlschreiber.
These two have their head to head stats tied at 2 apiece, but Paire has never faced Kohli on Clay.
Overall, I think this is a great bet on Kohli so suggesting to back him..

—> Back Kohli @1.55, lay @1.2

ATP BRD NASTASE OPEN (CLAY):

4. 11:00 – Bolelli v Haider-Maurer

Both have played pretty well this season. The prices seem fair here as Bolelli is the better player for me.

—> Back Bolelli @1.5, lay @1.25

Keep the stakes low in this trade..

WTA STUTTGART (CLAY):

5. 13:00 – Errani v Diyas

Diyas absolutely humiliated home favourite Lisicki yesterday. Still, Errani deserves to be the favourite here.

—> Back Errani @1.35, lay @1.15

6. 17:30 – Sharapova v Kerber

Match of the day here!

Head to head stats between these two reads 4-2 for Sharapova. However, Sharapova is coming into this match with a shock first round loss at the Miami Open and is yet to play on Clay this season.

Kerber though, has already won the Charleston Clay court event so this may not be an easy one for the Russian.

Considering, her present form and the fact she’s playing at home, there is a possible upset on the cards here.

—> Lay Sharapova @1.45, back @2.1

Good luck!

Some Terms Explained:

Back: Normal Stakes – use 10% of bank.
Back Heavy(BH) – use up to 30% of bank. Used at members discretion. Delay and Trade.
Lay: Normal stakes – use 10% of bank.
Lay Heavy(LH) – use up to 30% of bank. Used at members discretion. Delay and Trade.
Likely 3 Setter – consider laying the winner of the first set.
Hot Tip – I have more confidence in these tips. However, use normal stake sizes.

Tips are deemed unsuccessful at 40% loss of stake.

All odds shown with the tips are correct at time of publishing. Odds are often given several hours ahead of the event. If odds have changed, adjust your back/lay stake accordingly e.g. if I tip ‘Back at 1.5, Lay at 1.25’ – and back odds move to 1.55, adjust your lay odds to 1.3 – there are still 25 ticks between the back and lay odds.

Delay and Trade!! It’s OK to place your trades before the match starts, but in my opinion, waiting 2/3 games before placing your trades is the safest way to trade. This is advised in many of the articles below. To delay and trade will give you a good feel for the match. Delay and Trade is a MUST if you are Backing Heavy. Delaying is advised mostly for the women’s game, as early breaks of serve are more likely.  Please read the relevant article below.
