US Open 2014 Preview

Hi Guys,
Today is a rest day in tennis as the US Open looms large..so there’s no trading or betting tips today.

US OPEN 2014:

The finalGrand Slam of the year promises to be an amazing event!!

WOMENS:

Favourites:

Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova, Simona Halep and Petra Kvitova

Even though Serena is a far bigger favourite (2.72 on Betfair) than the others, I do think the latter bunch have their chances.

Outsiders:

Eugenie Bouchard, Agnieszka Radwanska, Victoria Azarenka, Caroline Wozniacki, Ana Ivanovic, Angelique Kerber and Venus Williams

Firstly, let me point out that among these, Venus has the highest odds of around 75 on Betfair which in my opinion is worth a small punt.

Out of these my best bet would be on Radwanska or Wozniacki as both have played well on hard courts coming to this tournament.

Possible Shock Winners:

Stephens, Muguruza, Madison Keys and Kuznetsova

Amongst these, I would personally go for Kuznetsova as she looks a rejuvenated player at the moment. Odds of around 200 on her looks pretty juicy I must say..

Draws for the favourites and My Prediction:

Serena:

The possible opponents for Serena, provided she eases through the first round are Barthel in Round 3, Stosur in the 4th, Pavlyuchenkova/Ivanovic in the quarter final and a possible Kuznetsova/Kvitova Semi-Final.

Sharapova:

Maria has a possible tough 3rd round against Lisicki and then Wozniacki in the 4th. The quarter-final could be a repeat of the French Open final with Halep.

Kvitova:

Petra’s possible opponents include Kuznetsova or Azarenka in the 4th round and a quarter-final with Bouchard.

Halep:

Halep’s journey may include overcoming Venus in the 4th and Wozniacki/Sharapova in the Quarter-finals.

MY PREDICTION:

Overall, I think Serena has the easiest of draws even though Ivanovic is definitely a threat in the Quarter-Final. Petra can definitely overcome her opponents to reach the Semis. Venus beating Halep cannot be ruled out due to her recent form, however the surprise package could be Kuznetsova who has won this tournament before, as she looks in decent form.

Other than Kuznetsova, I’m picking Sloane Stephens to shine here. Muguruza could be another threat to some big guns and if Madison Keys’ serves hold up, she’s also worth watching closely.

The current form of all players indicate Serena is the most thirsty to win this title. Personally, I do think the only player who has got a serious chance to knock Serena out is Petra Kvitova which is why she’s an excellent bet here with odds of around 10.

I am predicting a thrilling Serena v Kvitova Semi Final here with Serena going on to win the title in probably an easy final.

MY PICK:

SERENA WILLIAMS TO MEET KVITOVA IN THE SEMIS AND WINNING AN EASY FINAL!

MENS:

Favourites:

Djokovic and Federer

For me one of these guys should reach the final and my best bet would be Roger Federer! As well as Djokovic has played in Wimbledon, he has looked erratic since. Roger on the contrary has been very consistent and looks far better prepared for this one. Roger @ odds of 4 on Betfair hence looks an amazing bet as that is likely to fall very soon!

Outsiders:

Tsonga, Wawrinka, Ferrer and Murray

The best bet without a question here is Tsonga with odds of around 30 on Betfair. His recent ATP title beating Federer in the final was no fluke. He really deserved it. This makes him a potential champion here in my opinion as this is definitely his favourite surface. Wawrinka’s consistency and Andy Murray’s sloppy form are worth a concern. However Ferrer has stepped up his game to make himself a Dark Horse.

Possible shock winners:

Dimitrov, Raonic, Gulbis, Isner and Nishikori

Dimitrov seems to have an easy first few rounds looking at the draw, but I don’t think he will get past Roger if they are to meet in the Quarters. However, the guy with a serious chance is Gulbis with his massive serves on a surface he likes. Raonic has played decent on hard recently and John Isner can never be underestimated at home. Also, Nishikori may come up as a surprise to many if he can step up a gear or two.

Best bet advice here: Gulbis with odds of more than 100 on Betfair.

Draws for the favourites and My Prediction:

Djokovic:

After an easy first round, the Djoker has a possible tough challenge through Gilles Muller in the 2nd. His fourth round opposition could be Kohlschreiber or more possibly, the big serving John Isner. Assuming he gets through that, I feel his biggest threat is through Tsonga in the Quarter finals. Yes, I really do think Tsonga is a threat to the Djoker here!! Tsonga has stepped up his game big time and looks ready for this Grand Slam. Basically, I must admit, Djokovic has got a really tough draw in his hand..

Federer:

Like Djokovic, Roger has a potential threat through Karlovic in the 3rd round. After that it looks rather smooth sailing until a possible meeting with Dimitrov or Gasquet. Personally a Gasquet vs Federer Quarter-Final looks more likely to me.

MY PREDICTION:

I am predicting a very tough US Open for the favourite Novak here. Tsonga as mentioned above, could emerge as a major opponent to any of the big hopes. However, sticking by the smooth and consistent Roger is the best bet for me. His form is right and physically he looks great. Moreover, Roger would want to add one more title to his Grandslams as time is against him at the moment. So the safest and very possibly the right bet here should be on the great man, Roger Federer!

MY PICK:

ROGER FEDERER TO WIN US OPEN 2014!
