Match Reports: 21st and 22nd October

21st: Fognini v Ramos: 6-4 6-2. We have made some good money off Fognini lately – his form up to this match was dismal. However, he turned it around here and played very well. He looked more comfortable on serve than he has for weeks and really upped his game quite a lot. He has to play Andy Murray in the next round on Thursday and that should be a much stiffer test. Murray is playing well, beating Ferrer to win the tourney in Vienna. Fognini won their last encounter in the Davis Cup back in April by 3-0 sets. However, Fognini’s game has gone downhill since. It will be very interesting to see just Fognini will play after his first win for a few weeks, but doubt he will improve enough to be a threat to Murray.

22nd: Ivanovic v Bouchard 6-1 6-3. I backed Bouchard in her last match against Halep. If she carried her form into that match she should have won. However, she looked like a different player compared to the player we’ve seen throughout 2014. And given Ivanovic performance against Serena Williams, I didn’t give Bouchard much chance. Ivanovic lost to Williams in two sets but her first serve percentage was great and she showed a huge amount of fight – something that was missing for Bouchard in her match against Halep. This was a pretty straightforward victory for Ivanovic. She raced through the first set in just 34 minutes. Ivanovic serve wasn’t as good as it was against Williams but it didn’t really need to be. Good win here for the Serb.

22nd: Myeni v Moriya 6-1 6-2. Both tips on the 22nd were pretty easy wins for our players. It’s not often we can say that!! I didnt get to see this one but looked like a breeze for Myeni. The bookies got the favourite right although the reason I chose to back him was because I thought the odds were great value. Myeni is just off the back of a great win in India, beating Nedovyesov in the final on Sunday.
