Notes 6th and 7th October

Young v Jaziri : 5-7 4-6. Young was beaten well by a Jaziri in this match. Jaziri put pressure on Young’s serve from the outset and had break point in the first and fifth games of the first set. He didint convert those breat points but eventually broke Young’s resistance in the 11th game of the set to take a 6-5 lead in the set and went on to serve out the set in the next game to take it 7-5. The second det seemed to be going more as I thought it might when Young broke Jaziri in the fourth game of the second. Young was looking a bit stronger at this stage. However, after serving to take a 4-1 lead, Jaziri took complete control of the match and went on to take the last five games of the match to win the second set 6-4. Poor performance here from Young. Jaziri now goes on to meet Wang in the next round on Wednesday, where he starts as firm favoutite at at odds of around 1.2.

Aoyama v Voracova : 6-1 6-3. One of the main reasons for giving this tip was Aoyama’s performance against Savchuk in the previous round. Savchuk’s form was pretty good but Aoyama, having lost the first set, came back to dominate the match in the next two sets, winning them 6-1 6-1. Aoyama carried her form from those two sets into this match and put on a pretty dominant performance against Voracova. She only faced one break point in the whole match in the second set when she was broken, but aside from that blip, she was never troubled in the match. Aoyama will now go on to meet Davis in the next round, after Davis beat Kuwata today. Davis dropped a set and needed a tie break to see out her match so it will be interesting to see who comes out on top, with Davis going in as the favourite.
