Tennis News Plus Betting Update 23/1/19

Another day of shocks at the Australian Open as Pliskova overcomes Williams and Pouille overcomes Raonic.

Serena Williams lost from a seemingly impossible position, there is no other way to describe it. I have never seen such a collapse from her before. She was 5-1 up and cruising in the final set. She had 4 match points and still lost the match. In fairness, she rolled her ankle at a crucial time and it seemed to have disastrous consequences. But she still had opportunities to win. Like Federer a few days earlier, she just couldn’t convert at the vital moments.

Novak Djokovic was given an extraordinary break as Nishikori retired due to injury. Nishikori was always likely to break down this way, and Novak had only to play 12 games in the match. This will certainly help him in the semis, where he should see off Lucas Pouille.

Pouille has proven his worth in the last 2 rounds defeating Coric and Raonic. Having not won a single match in 2019 previous to the Open, he will certainly gain confidence from an impressive display today. Djokovic will prove to be a tough nut on Friday. The first men’s semi between Tsitsipas and Nadal is played tomorrow morning.

Betting/Trading Results

Very little happening on betting last night. We had no trading tips and no qualifiers for Goldmine. We got 1 from 2 in betting, breaking just about even on the day.

We will have more action later with 3 betting tips, one trading tips and a qualifier for Goldmine tonight.

Good Luck,

Patrick.
