Match Reports Betting Tips 15th and 16th October

15th: Pennetta v Giorgi 6-7 4-6. This betting tip didn’t go to plan!! I thought this would be a tougher match for Giorgi. Unlike many matches we see in WTA in recent times, both ladies served exceptionally well in the first set. Neither player gave away a break point in the first set to take it to a tie break. When the set got to a tie break, I still felt it was very hard to call. However, Giorgi took control of the tie break immediately and went into a 4-0 lead and Pennetta didn’t recover. Giorgi took the set by winning 7-4 in the tie break. Giorgi, admittedly, looked slightly the stronger of the two in the second set. She broke Pennetta in the fifth game of the set. Though Pennetta broke back immediately, she gave the advantage back in the very next game and went on to lose the set. Pennetta beat Giorgi in Indian Wells back in March 6-2 6-1 but never looked like repeating the task. However, it was no humiliation for her and we will keep a close eye on her progress in her next tournament.

16th: Kukushkin v Fognini 6-4 6-2. Fognini’s form since the US Open has been pretty dire. He last won in the US Open on 28th August but since then has lost to Mannarino, Wawrinka, Federer, Gulbis, Wang and now Kukushkin. To be fair, there’s some good and great players in the list but given the promise that Fognini has shown, it’s been tough. Kukushkin, on the other hand has shown good form, losing only to Djokovic in his last 5 outings. The match went as expected with Kukushkin winning in straight sets. We’l keep watching Fognini’s career with interest and we hope his slide is halted sometime soon (except when we’re betting against him!). The end of the tennis season, it seems, cannot come fast enough for the Italian. 

16th: Siniakova v Mladenovic 6-1 6-1. I thought the odds on Siniakova,  who looked very impressive against Vesnina in the previous round, were very generous. As high as 1.9 on some bookies. Siniakova was favourite with a few bookies and evens with others. It seemed like a hard one to call. However, seeing the range of shots that she can produce, I felt that Mladenovic was going to face a tough challenge. However, I don’t think many would have predicted the outcome. Mladenovic, who beat a tough player in Ka Pliskova in the previous round was badly beaten. The winners of both our tips today, Giorgi and Siniakova, will meet in the next round.
